A completed Notice of Intended Marriage form must be lodged with an authorised marriage celebrant within 18 months of your proposed marriage and no later than one month prior to your wedding day.

Please provide the following documents at your initial meeting with the celebrant:

 1) An original Birth Certificate is preferred.

 2) A current Overseas Passport is required should a birth certificate not be available; it can also be used as photo identification.

 3) A current Australian Driver’s Licence for photo identification if an overseas passport is not available.

 4) Divorce/Death certificates must also be provided if a previous marriage has taken place.

Marriage Certificates

After the ceremony, the couple and their witnesses will sign three sets of documents. One will be a Register that is retained by the Celebrant.

There is the Marriage Certificate that is lodged with the Office of Births, Deaths and Marriages, and finally there is the Certificate that is given to the couple of their record of the event.

After your marriage is registered at the office of Births, Deaths and Marriages an application can be made to that office for a copy of the official Marriage Certificate.
